I had an article in a magazine on my knitted clocks once ....  Seriously, they were brilliant but before their time!  Knitted around solid pieces of sponge I created amazing (well I liked them) grandmother clocks.  There was a flap at the back where you could get into the clock action to change the battery which was housed in a papier mache box.
